Coolest. Man. Who. Ever. Lived.

1983 is starting to feel like a loooong time ago. Great to have A.I. back, but I can't even imagine a Sixers team that might someday threaten a "Fo, fo, fo" again in the playoffs/finals.

Anyway, this is from the All-Star Game that year -- the late, great Marvin. I'm not big on hyperbole, but...f**k it, I'm saying this: Marvin's National Anthem will never be topped.

Marvin Gaye was a bad muthafucka. My Pop loved everything he did; had every album. I mean, what can you really say about a dude like that. He wasn't even trying. I mean, he knew what he was doing. He was a performer after all. But he was also at least a little bit crazy. And he was often high. Could have easily been during this clip. And yet, none of that takes away from what a visionary he was musically and as a humanitarian performer. He was special, because while he was all cool on the surface, while also being about something much greater than he himself as individual. He was about God and love and our collective future, while being an unparalleled lady killer and cultural icon. That's pretty incredible range. Some would say, unfair.

...and then there's Sam Cooke.

Rumor has it, Marvin kneeled at the alter. Even added the "e" at the end of his name as a tribute.

Dude's voice was smooth as silk. Every line he sings, you can imagine some hottie's panties slipping off just from the sound.

Both taken way, WAY too young. Both taken horribly.
