Da Iggles
It's time for Andy Reid to go back to his job selling pretzels at the Linc. He's had a good run, but really.... When every game your team loses for 5 years is for the same 3 reasons, it's time to stop coaching.
It's stunning how automatic and unyielding the fanbase supports Reid. In Summer 2007, following another disappointing season, and with his kids getting arrested, etc., I asked a die-hard Birds fan and buddy of mine what he would think if he heard that Eagels management was in discussion to bring Jeff Fisher over as the new head coach and dump Reid.
He looked at me like I was absolutely insane. Like, this wasn't even a topic worthy of discussion.
The fans are starting to turn. Listening to Angelo Cataldi call for his head over the last 6 years has finally gotten to some people. If they don't make the playoffs this year, the call will be loud and it will be clear. They'll probably tell Reid to take McNabb with him.
In all fairness to Reid's atrocious clock mgmt and too-tight style, and McNabb's inability to come through in clutch situations...
The team defense sucks. The Giants got whatever they wanted on the field. 6-yard average running on 1st downs? Come on. How much can you blame Donovan for that?
He even brought his momma in to give everyone on the defensive line a bowl of Chunky Soup before the game started, but...nothing.
My favorite part was with about 2 and a half left Madden says something like, "McNabb looks like he did at the end of the Superbowl."
Exactly. Nice guy, not clutch guy.
Not clutch guy + sub par game day coach = no super bowl.
And why is it the Eagles always decide to become a power running team at the worst possible moment.
I like McNabb but I think he's going to have to get his ring in Chi town. I'm wishing him well. As for Reid, he'll get a a year or two to see if he's got Montana or Klingler with the Kolb. I have a feeling it's going to be a whole lot of e Garcia without the athleticism.
Is this pessimistic? I haven't even gotten to the part where they have to dismantle 2/3 of the defense...
